Did you know that in Montessori Education there are no punishments ( everyone loves the sound of that and rightly so) but there are also no rewards. That one tends to be a bit more controversial.

Does your child’s setting give out stickers or use behaviour charts? What do you think about that?

We believe that children who are engaged and active, with few but consistent boundaries and have multiple opportunities to choose, will develop their will power and that their self discipline will evolve. They will become intrinsically motivated which leads to happiness and increased self esteem.

The calm but busy environment in Montessori environments does not come from the teacher imposing it or from external motivators of rewards or punishments. The source of it comes from within each individual child as they discover themselves.
